Strengthens Nuclear Deterrence

• Authorizes full funding for ongoing efforts to modernize the nuclear triad, as well as the scientific capabilities and nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) architecture that support our nuclear deterrent.

• Authorizes additional funding to accelerate key modernization activities, including the development of the next-generation Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and the nuclear sea-launched cruise missile (SLCM-N).

• Modernizes the sea-based leg of the nuclear deterrence triad by procuring the 3rd Columbia-class Ballistic Missile Submarine and providing block buy authorities for up to five ships.

• Prohibits DoW from reducing the nation’s ICBM fleet below 400 or reducing the responsiveness or alert status of the force.

• Strengthens the Air Force’s focus on nuclear operations by codifying the roles and responsibilities of the Air Force Global Strike Command.

• Further improves the effectiveness of DoW’s management of nuclear activities by continuing to streamline and consolidate bureaucracy.
