Comment:  As we await the Sentinel Missile and all that it brings to upgrade from Minuteman, here are two interesting views of what gets us there.  The first article is the history lesson.  The second article uses some interesting web page features to present its story courtesy of iDeas Lab.  Photos are found on the timeline feature.

    Military‑Industrial Complex

The military-industrial complex is a nation’s military establishment, as well as the industries involved in the production of armaments and other military materials. In his 1961 farewell address, U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower famously warned the public of the nation’s increasingly powerful military-industrial complex and the threat it posed to American democracy. Today, the United States routinely outspends every other country for military and defense expenditures.

    Priming the Innovation System

A New Age of U.S. Industrial Policy

To secure the economic and geopolitical advantage in the twenty-first century, the United States needs a technology strategy that reflects new realities, learns from the past, and is committed for the long term.

The United States has long been the global leader in advanced technology. But accelerating global competition especially from Chinaand a diminished U.S. ability to invent, produce, and refine new high-tech products means that we cannot take this position for granted.
