Fellow Missileers:
In the past few years we have made significant upgrades to our technical systems. This has helped our association better connect with members, active duty missileers, and the public. Now we’re ready to up our game. Our organization of volunteers has done some amazing work.
But we need some help!
Unlike Sir Ernest Shackleton, I’m not offering danger, or even wages. But I can offer a chance to play an important role in a great organization as part of a talented team. Also unlike Shackleton, we need men and women.
If you have a technical background and an interest in heading up one of these important projects, we want to move forward on the following efforts.
Patch Gallery. Our patch gallery (www.afmissileers.org/gallery) is a world class display of missileer patches. It is hosted on WordPress. But we need help finding and implementing software to improve the search function and maintain the gallery.
WordPress experience required.
On This Day. This is a new initiative. We have assembled a list of over 1000 significant dates in missile history to share with our members and the public on multiple social media platforms. This will be a daily reminder of the contributions and history of the many weapon systems we have operated, maintained and defended. We are seeking volunteers to help us research/correlate imagery and manage the technical efforts.
Experience with Hootsuite or a similar product would help with the technical selection and implementation part of the project. A passion for history is all that’s required for the research and correlation.
YouTube Channel. We have a YouTube channel with nearly 750 videos with over 10,000 views. We need volunteers to help us capture new content and maintain our video archive.
Experience with YouTube Studio, preferred, but not required
Data Archives. We are collecting missile related images, documents, and other electronic history artifacts to create an historical archive. This will aid members and the public interested in researching, perusing images, and preserving missile history.
Experience with Google Drive or similar platforms is preferred.
Timelines. We host an interactive timeline of missile systems at www.afmissileers.org/Timelines. We’d like to add additional systems and information---plus---repair some broken links. The timelines use a software called TimelineJS, which does not require programming skills. Experience with Google Drive and sheets, or similar platforms will help. But a passion for history is most important.
QuickBooks. Our treasurer and director could use help with QuickBooks operations to manage association finances. QuickBooks experience, of course, needed.
If you have interest in any of these areas, please contact me at director@afmissileers.org or via phone at 719-351-3962 for more information.
Sincerely,
Jim
