My first assignment after leaving missiles was the Industrial Facilities contracting shop at WPAFB where one of our many tasks was to analyze and provide the recommended means to manufacture A-10 High Explosive Incindary (HEI) rounds out of depleted uranium. The A-10 gun was also something we really got a look at just how it operates! Exciting stuff. The second article below gives a great description of what it is like to fly the A-10 and fire that amazing gun. The last link is a video of how the gun works.
