The next call for scholarship applications will go out in late November 2026.

Training for a "night" MARE at Malmstrom AFB? Airmen across the 341st Missile Wing responded to a Major Accident Response Exercise, (MARE) on August 19, 2026. This exercise featured a simulated crash of an MH-139A Grey Wolf Helicopter. It rapidly grew to involve personnel from multiple squadrons and groups across the base, including the Fire Department, Security Forces, Medical and other first responders.

U.S. Extended Nuclear Deterrence: A Guide for the Perplexed

U.S. extended nuclear deterrence is the policy and capability by which the United States extends its nuclear umbrella to protect over 30 allies around the world. Extended deterrence involves making nuclear promises that increase deterrence in peacetime and keeps deterrence from failing. Extended deterrence begs the question: if one of our allies is nuked, would the U.S. retaliate with nukes? Part of the answer to this question involves keeping U.S. nuclear forces viable and strong so our enemies don't ever consider using nuclear weapons as a course of action. Our missile maintainers, security forces and operators are the "root source" of the capability reinforcing nuclear deterrence for the U.S. and our allies around the world.

A Great Story on Mentorship: His Supervisors Never Gave up on Him!

In 1992 an Airman reported to his first duty station...the  321st Missile Security Squadron at F.E. Warren AFB. Within his first year at F.E. he received non-judicial punishment under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice after making a poor decision but that wasn't the end of the story.

Missing North Dakota?

Just an FYI... If you are ever in the Washington D.C. area you can visit restaurants owned by 170,000 North Dakota farmers called "Founding Farmers". You may not hear anybody saying  local colloquialisms like "ya shure, you betcha, or don't ya know", but you will be treated to delicious homestyle comfort food and deserts... courtesy of a Union of the best farmers in the world who own much of the property around our LFs and MAFs.

Note the location on the plate: N 46Deg 53' 42.258"  W98Deg. 41.30.383" and the numbers and drawings on the silverware. The number 47,553 refers to the number of family-owned farms represented by the North Dakota Farmers Union. Pretty Cool, eh? You Betcha!!

Sincerely,

Jim
